Sunday afternoon at the BFA Technical Centre was not the result we wanted. Paradise Football Club suffered a 3-2 defeat, and it would be dishonest to dress that up as anything other than a disappointing afternoon. We did not perform to the level this club expects, and that is something we acknowledge openly.
How the Game Unfolded
Paradise made a bright start when Sheran Hoyte found his shot early in the third minute to give us the lead. For a moment, it looked like the platform was set for another strong league performance. However, a goal conceded in the 14th minute levelled proceedings, and despite our best efforts to regain control through the middle portion of the game, things began to unravel.
A set piece in the 63rd minute that we failed to deal with effectively, followed by an avoidable penalty concession in the 73rd minute, left Paradise facing a 3-1 deficit with time running against us. Difficult moments that, upon reflection, should and could have been handled better.
We Never Stopped Fighting
Jaron Oughterson's composed finish deep into stoppage time to pull it back to 3-2 was a reminder of what this squad is capable of, and the way the entire team threw themselves forward in those final moments showed that the desire to fight for this club never wavers, even when circumstances are difficult.
A Honest Assessment
The coaching staff and players will sit down, review Sunday's performance honestly, and work hard on the training ground to ensure the same mistakes are not repeated. Conceding from set pieces and giving away a penalty at a critical stage of the game are areas that fall below the standards we hold ourselves to. That work begins immediately.
What we can take some quiet comfort in is that despite the defeat, Paradise FC remain at the top of the BFA Premier League on 16 points. We are grateful for that, but we are under no illusions — results like Sunday's cannot become a habit if we want to achieve what we set out to achieve this season.
There is a lot of football still to be played. We remain focused, we remain together, and we remain committed to the supporters who back this club every single week.
